US NAVY SUCCESSFULLY TESTS NEW MISSILE AND NORTH KOREA IS NOT GOING TO LIKE IT

Nuclear weapons testing in North Korea has put caused many people to worry about the possibility of nuclear war. Several nations are worried about the possibility of North Korea launching a preemptive strike, as a result, many defensive technologies have been implemented. While many defensives are still on shaky ground one of them recently yielded great results, the Raytheon SM-6.

During a test off the coast of Scottland, the United States Navy successfully shot down a ballistic missile using a Raytheon SM-6. The Standard Missile-6 is an active seeker which is able to lock onto targets with incredible speed and maneuverability.

“The U.S. Missile Defense Agency and U.S. Navy sailors aboard USS McFaul successfully test fired a Standard Missile-6. That flight test designated Standard Missile Controlled Test Vehicle (SM CTV)-03, demonstrated the successful performance of an SM-6 launched from an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense capable DDG (destroyer) and was conducted as part of the system’s flight certification process.”

The SM-6 can be deployed via naval vessel and could certainly aid in the event of a North Korean missile strike. Although South Korea is already equipped with Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) systems you can never be too safe when countless lives are at stake.
