155mm Field Howitzer 77B: The Bofors Gun

One of the badass looking weapons of the 21st century is the FH 77. Check out the video about this swedish piece of machinery as we talk a bit more of it.

The Fälthaubits 77 (FH-77) is a drawn field howitzer using 155 mm caliber from Swedish production. The gun has a high degree of automation and was the world’s first field contactor with an auxiliary motor for self-propulsion.

The FH-77 was created in the 1960s on the basis of a demand from the Swedish armed forces. They wanted to replace the Obusier de 155 mm Modèle 50 from the late 1940s with a modern one. A field howitzer with a high cadence as well as a great mobility was required . After various tests of foreign models one decided to self-production. The development contract was awarded to Bofors , who developed the first prototype with the designation FH-77A.
