In wake of the Barcelona attack that left 14 people dead, including one American, another ISIS orchestrated attack took place in Cambrils, a nearby town in Spain. Law enforcement officers suspect both attacks are linked. Luckily, one policewoman who was supposed to be on vacation saved countless lives by shooting and killing four out of the five attackers.
An Audi A3 carrying five men sped up and veered off the road hitting a police vehicle. The five men were all allegedly under the influence of the drug called Captagon, a super-amphetamine regularly used by ISIS to give attackers an adrenaline boost.
Each person coming out of the flipped vehicle had some form of handheld weaponry, according to police. One officer was injured when the vehicle was hit, and an unnamed female officer began to open fire on the weapon-wielding men.
The policewoman reportedly killed four out of the five terrorists single-handily as they charged at her. Catalan Police Chief Josep Luis Trapero commended the officer’s valiant efforts but stated she is emotionally distressed.
“To kill four people, even if you are a professional, is not easy to digest,” he said. The fifth suspected terrorist ran into a nearby park where he was shot by a policeman in pursuit. According to a witness at the scene, after the man was shot at the park, he began to get back up and it took the officer 15 bullets to put him down for good.
“He must have been on drugs. He took the first round of shots, he fell on the floor, and then within two seconds, I thought I was watching a film, one of them horror films, the guy just stood up. He was taunting, smiling, laughing and he carried on walking to the police, and then they gave it to him again, a couple more shots and then he fell to the ground,” the witness recalled.
The men were thought to have been wearing suicide vests, but it was later reveled that those were fake. A 61-year-old woman was killed by the terrorists and an estimated six others were injured, according to the Daily Mail.
The five dead suspects have yet to have been named publicly. Below is a video of the officers shooting one of the suspects. Viewer discretion is advised.
