The Oklahoma woman accused of acting as a would-be getaway driver for a botched burglary in Broken Arrow, Monday, is speaking out about the crime. Her three accomplices were shot and killed by the homeowner’s son. She wants the man who killed her friends to know she doesn’t blame him for doing what he did.

Elizabeth Marie Rodriguez, 21, turned herself in Monday after Maxwell Cook, 19, Jacob Redfearn, 17, and Jaycob Woodruff, 16, were caught in the act of robbing the house where 23-year-old Zachary Peters was sleeping. Peters woke up, realized that something was happening, and met the intruders with his AR-15.
Rodriguez was recently interviewed by ABC News. During that interview, she defended Peter’s actions, saying he was doing what he had to do “to protect his home.”
“I know what we did was stupid and wrong,” she said. “I don’t blame him… I understand why he did what he did. I mean, I do to an extent.”
As of now, there are no charges being filed against Peters, who is believed to have acted in self-defense. Rodriguez, on the other hand, faces one count of second-degree burglary, three counts of first-degree burglary and three counts of first-degree felony murder.
Police say that Rodriguez planned the burglary, drove the three men to the house, and waited outside to drive them away. Rodriguez is believed to have made deliveries to the house, and knew the homeowner by name.
Peters shot each of the burglars once in the chest. One of them managed to crawl more than 100 yards out of the house, and died on the driveway. Police have not said if Rodriguez watched her friend die there, and then abandoned him, or if she scarpered at the sound of the gunfire.
Though Peter’s shot placement was efficient at eliminating the threat, he has stated that he only intended to defend himself and hadn’t meant to kill anyone.
After the shooting, he retreated to his bedroom where he barricaded himself in before calling 911.
