Last week, the San Antonio Police Department’s Bomb Squad was called after 75 rounds of decades-old ammo was discovered underneath the home. Based on the date on the back of the box, the ammo was about 40 years old.
As a precaution, six surrounding homes were evacuated while the bomb squad looked into the discovery. Residents were displaced from their homes for just about three hours.
“This is definitely a big danger, because they’ve been under there so long,” Capt. Troy Balcar of the San Antonio Fire Department told Fox 29. “They’ve rusted, they’ve been exposed to the weather, elements outside so we definitely want to get them disposed of as quickly as possible.”
This is the second time officials were called to the home. A couple weeks ago, the bomb squad disposed of shotgun casings.
According to previous family members, a 30-year-veteran lived at the home until he passed away recently.
