HOLLYWOOD PEW: The Guns Of Mile 22

Just so we are clear, I have not actually seen Mile 22, but I am a sucker for a flashy preview that features guns, explosions, dramatic pauses a lots of ballistic nylon. Story aside, the prop armorers behind the movie seem to have their sh*t together, displaying a wide variety of popular, historic and capable firearms for viewers. Let’s take a look.

HOLLYWOOD PEW: The Guns Of Mile 22

GLOCK 17:

The iconic polymer pistol gets tops billing as a good-guy sidearm see mostly in the hands of Wahlberg. The slide and barrel length look to be a G17, but I guess the funky Boston native could be packing a G22 in 40S&W.

Rumor has it that GLOCK USA was on hand during some of the filming to help train Wahlberg and other actors in gun handling techniques.

Surefire Scout Light:

Whalberg’s character gives us a lot of factetime with the H&K 416 carbine outfitted with most everything upt and including an IR aiming laser. Although, at least in the previews, we don’t see his character ever use night vision.

FN 249 SAW Light Machine Gun

i realize that neither the bad guys or the good guys consider hearing protection in the movies, but shooting centerfire rifles in a cinderblock hallway seems like a terrible experience. Not to mention the repeated pounding from a beltfed machine gun.

Trijicion SRS Reflex

I love Trijicon, but the SRS has to be one of of the iconic company’s least favored optics. Big, heavy and prone to recticle washout, the SRS is photogenic on the silver screen.

Sig Sauer MCX Virtus:

Because of a lack of screen time in the previews, I’m questioning my initial analysis. But looking at the angled vents on the hand guard, I’m sticking with this rifle being a Sig Sauer Virtus, possibly integrally suppressed.

Open bolt, roller delayed and Swiss Precision – you had me at ‘Hello’. Plus bad guys in black motorcycle helmets always adds an uptick on the thriller/action scale for any movie.

Mile 22  – In Theaters

Published on May 15, 2018 – STX Entertainment
In a visceral modern thriller from the director of Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA’s most highly-prized and least understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.
