Because of all these, NATO decided to give it a try and is currently still using them as their primal choice of ammunition.
The 5.56 × 45 mm NATO, STANAG 4172 standard as is a cartridge of firearm. It is the standard ammunition of the NATO armed forces and also of numerous nations that are not part of it.
This cartridge is a derivative of .223 Remington, its commercial version for civilian use, but not completely compatible with it.
